 The Public Lab
The Public Lab is a community which develops and applies open-source tools to environmental exploration and investigation. By democratizing inexpensive and accessible Do-It-Yourself techniques, Public Lab creates a collaborative network of practitioners who actively re-imagine the human relationship with the environment. The core Public Lab program is focused on "civic science" in which we research open source hardware and software tools and methods to generate knowledge and share data about community environmental health. Our goal is to increase the ability of underserved communities to identify, redress, remediate, and create awareness and accountability around environmental concerns. Public Lab achieves this by providing online and offline training, education and support, and by focusing on locally-relevant outcomes that emphasize human capacity and understanding.

Quantified Self is not a project or an organization, but a "movement" based on self-tracking -- the recording and analysis of ones own biological/physiological/mental data. Quantified Self Labs is a founding company in this movement.

 Other Resources
The Open Science Collaborative is a group of scientists (primarily psychologists, and primarily academics, but not exclusively either) who discuss open science issues and collaborate on research projects and open science activism. They are affiliated with the Center for Open Science.
The Center for Open Science is a non-profit organization based in Charlottesville, Virginia. COS is dedicated to improving the alignment between scientific values and scientific practices to improve the accumulation and application of knowledge. Operating with a technology start-up atmosphere and mindset, the COS team moves quickly, identifies problems and creates solutions, encourages risk-taking, blends science and technology, and is collaborative, high energy, and dedicated to openness.
