On Windows, we suggest the Notepad++ text editor. It is actually unrelated to the Windows default program called Notepad. Sublime Text is also an option. The setup instructions are the same as those for OSX, except of course you install the Windows version instead.
To install it:
* Click and download http://download.tuxfamily.org/notepadplus/
* Run the installer, and follow the process to the end.
