- Quandl has some fascinating data, and its sets can be queried or pulled down.
- Open Parliament also has some fun stuff, I've used it for a course project before.
- FiveThirtyEight publishes all of their data sets for their articles on their github page, from elections to NFL.
- Census Bureau data on populations and communities!
- Data.gov sets of US Government data; some are more useful than others
