Our goal is to increase Python community diversity through programming outreach events. Basic programming skills are so empowering and useful that we think everyone should have them.

How does it work?
The Boston Python Workshop is a series of 1.5 day project-driven workshops and follow-up events aimed at beginning Python programmers. These are free events staffed by volunteers from the local programming and open source communities. We work closely with the Boston Python Meetup, a large local Python user group. The event is part of the OpenHatch event series.
Why are we doing this?
Our goal is to increase Python community diversity through programming outreach events. Basic programming skills are so empowering and useful that we think everyone should have them.
Most directly, with every workshop we get to introduce 30 or 40 women and their friends to programming in Python. We also strive to:
- Show new programmers and the Boston Python community examples of smart, confident, capable programmers of all backgrounds.
- Bring new, awesome, diverse people into local Python programming communities through diversity and outreach events.
- Inspire other people to run their own introductory workshops and outreach events, and to get more user groups thinking about diversity and outreach.

- Staff from the Boston Python Workshop spoke at Google CAPE, a summer computing and programming experience at Google's Cambridge, MA office for middle school students.
- Staff from the Boston Python Workshop spoke at the Artemis Project, a summer computer science camp at Boston University for high school girls.
