Our recommendation

On Mac OS, we suggest the Komodo Edit text editor.

To install it:

  • Go to http://www.activestate.com/komodo-edit/downloads
  • Click on Mac Disk Image (DMG), and wait for it to download.
  • Open the new Komodo Edit virtual drive in Finder, and locate the Komodo Edit program.
  • Copy it to Applications: drag the icon and drop it onto Applications in Finder's left-hand navigation column.

To run it:

  • Open it like you would any other Mac program: From the programs list in the Applications folder.

Success!

Now you have an editor that you can use to open any text file, including Python programs.

If you prefer a different editor for text, check with an instructor before moving on to make sure it will work for the weekend.
